Watchdog criticizes Obama mortgage plan

Government Accountability Office says Treasury’s estimates of 3 to 4 million people being helped may be too rosy. Also says administration should monitor servicers better.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — A government watchdog raised questions about the Obama administration’s estimate that up to four million people could be helped by the president’s mortgage modification program.

The Government Accountability Department and housing counselors have been skeptical about the programs since they began around the begining of 2009. Along with homeowner sentiment disapproval over these programs has become common place. Due to difficulties in the processing, both on the part of the lender and that on the side of the homeowner, getting the help the homeowner’s deserve is just not happening.

Simply the Hope Now Alliance says, You need help. Don’t deal with your lender on your own.

Mortgage loan servicers can’t manage the flow of the clients coming in that need help. What was talking 24-48 hours just a few years ago is now taking 20-30 days. The lenders are ramping up but the flow is too great. At the end of the day thousands of homeowners aren’t getting the help they need. For some it is important to hire an experienced team to manage their application for their workout options.  Don’t get lost in the mix as the difference may end up saving your home.
